Artist's Description
ST. JOHNS BRIDGE: Finished in 1931, the steel suspension St. Johns Bridge is arguably the most beautiful in the city, connecting North Portland to US-30 northwest of the city. Sadly, since the bridge lies a few miles west of the city, many visitors to Portland never see this marvelous structure, which is a designated historical landmark.
About Craig Perry-Ollila
Rareart of the Northwest is my design and photography business based in Bellingham, WA. The photographs were shot with Nikon digital SLR's and digitally processed on Mac's. The photos are a wide range of images shot from British Columbia, Bellingham, Seattle, Portland to California. The subject matter ranges from close ups of old doors, rust on a light pole to shots of the Experience Music Project in Seattle designed by Frank Gehry. I have a very stylized way of using photographs, I love creating high contrast, vivid color images that are wonderful and rare. Please enjoy this edition of my work. Craig, such a creatively composed shot on this bridge. It is certainly deserving of its historical landmark status. As you state in your description, it is a marvelous structure indeed.

PS, Craig. I didn't realize that I would be back THIS soon! Actually didn't ever pull myself away! But I want and meant to mention that I regret not taking more experience with this wonder, almost out of most traffic's way now. The wind blowing through it inspires awe and more than natural fear for me. A very passive experiencing of vital, invisible, and raw energy. I have since walked San Francisco's famous Golden Gate, and the experience was anti-thetical for me. The heavy busy taffic's noise and exhaust pollution, the suicide discouraging wire fencing, and such, lessen of the vivid wonder and Romance and dignity of San Francisco's skyline, ether gradually looming while approaching or receding over one's shoulder when walking away. But as a PNW native might say, that is such a different kind of expeience from Portlad's; a more "Modern Caiforniaish!" But, I've always felt that most people nowadays, interested only in the practicality and speed that roads (and bridges) can provide, feel much less than friendly toward St. John's Bridge. If so, well so long as they leave it alone, I will appreciate and defend their right to their own feelings. A nd views. Peace, etc., Bruce

Absolutey fascinating and beautiful,Craig, how you have chathedralized the St. John's Brdge. I lived most of my first 50 years in and around Portland but had not yet begun to apprecite how art of all genres can harmonize with nature, and vice verse. I really appreciate most all of you gallery. What keen, excting, and wonderful views. I am so glad that you sold this print today, because I just happened to come by and it beckoned me to your gallery. I'll be back, and I will tell people! Peace, etc., Bruce
